Encyclopedia of Australian Science: The CSIRO Division of Atmospheric Research took the place of the Division of Atmospheric Physics in 1988. Atmospheric Research carries out research in areas such as weather, climate and atmospheric pollution. This enables it to provide advice on issues such as air pollution, climate change and variability, ozone depletion and severe weather. On 1 July 2005.

A poorly known genus of river sharks with four species, two of which occur in Australian waters. River sharks are adapted to life in both marine and freshwaters.
Soil organic carbon (SOC) comprises 50 to 58% of soil organic matter (SOM) () and is an indicator of soil health and soil condition, with improvements in these typically being associated with increased amounts of SOC.Increasing SOC is also a method for removing carbon from the atmosphere to mitigate climate change and potentially to be a component in carbon trading schemes (2,3,4,5,6).
Hazardous waste land treatment (HWLT) is the controlled application of hazardous waste onto or into the surface horizon of the soil accompanied by continued monitoring and management, to degrade transform or immobilize the hazardous constituents in the waste.
Optical confocal profilometry is a new technology for characterizing the surfaces of materials. In this thesis, I hypothesize that confocal profilometry will be able to more accurately measure the erosion of wood during weathering than optical microscopy. Confocal profilometry may be able to screen photoprotective chemicals, and in this thesis I use confocal profilometry to test the hypothesis.
